The No. 2 St. Lawrence University women's cross country team picked up right where they left off in 2009, as the Saints cruised to victory at the 2010 Oneonta Invitational/Pre-Regional on Friday at Fortin Park in Oneonta, NY. Senior captain Wendy Pavlus, the reigning individual national champion, won the event by 27 seconds ahead of Geneseo State's Marissa Liberati.
Four St. Lawrence runners earned top-10 showing on Friday, with Pavlus pacing the team in 21:21.7 on the 6k course. The victory was the fourth straight for the Tupper Lake, NY native dating back to last fall. Junior All-America Jenna Hulton was third overall in 21:52, followed by senior Megan Derby in seventh place and first-year student Amanda Moreland in ninth.
Closing out the Saints' team scoring was first-year student Kelsey Leder in 30th position overall in 23:13.5. The rookie's finish capped the scoring at 50 points, 18 clear of Geneseo State and 85 points ahead of Rowan in third position.
Sophomore Jackie Lemme and first-year student Amy Cymerman closed out the team's top-7 runners behind 34th and 36th place finishes, respectively.
Also competing for the Scarlet and Brown on Friday at the Pre-Regional race were Ariel Beccia (46th), Kate Powers (59th), McKayla Nuffer (65th), Toria Koutras (66th), Kendra Sultzer (93rd), Melanie Solandt (101st), Caroline Raue (113th), Kate Sneden (127th), Katie Mannix (160th), Erikka Nuffer (164th) and Elizabeth Edwards (177th).
The Saints will have next week off before returning to competition at the Division I Paul Short Invitational, scheduled for Friday, October 1st in Bethlehem, PA.
