The St. Lawrence University volleyball team fell to one of the premier teams in the region, New York University, by the score of 3-0 on Friday evening at the New York State Regional Challenge in Rochester, NY. The Violets earned a sweep in impressive fashion, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16.
The victory moves NYU to 24-5 on the year, while the Saints fall to 20-10.
"NYU is a very good team and we had a hard time with their aggressiveness," said St. Lawrence head coach Shelly Roiger. "We played hard at times and showed effort, but we were very sloppy in many areas. We will be better tomorrow."
Sophomore Lexi Brown had seven kills to only one error to pace the Saints offense, while classmate Rebecca Doser added five kills. Senior co-captain Anna Kassab finished with a team-high 12 assists and 13 digs in the contest, but the Violets' attack was too strong for the Saints' block, as St. Lawrence closed with only a single block in the game.
St. Lawrence will be in action at the Regional Challenge again tomorrow, as they look to rebound in matches against the University of Rochester at 11:00am and Nazareth College at 3:00pm.
