ELMIRA, N.Y.—Sophomore midfielders Rachel Venne (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) and Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) each scored twice to lead the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (6-1) to a 5-1 victory over Elmira College (0-4-1) on Saturday afternoon. It was Potsdam's first victory over the Soaring Eagles in the teams' six all-time meetings. Sophomore forward Olivia Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton) netted Potsdam's other marker.

Seamans opened the scoring at the 21-minute mark after chasing down a pass from sophomore midfielder Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) and beat Elmira goalie Amanda Banner. Just 4:46 later, Venne one-timed a cross from Murray to make it a 2-0 contest. Falsion buried her first 1:06 after that, after chasing down a long feed from sophomore forward Amber Hyatt (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). In the 43rd minute, Venne tracked down a long through ball from sophomore defender Sarah Erno (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) and ripped it past Banner. The Bears took the 4-0 lead and a 13-5 advantage in shots into the break.

At 57:10, Jordyn Rouselle hammered home a pass from Niki Lemper to close the gap to 4-1. While the play was a little closer in the second half, Elmira never scored again. Falsion slammed the door on the Eagles with a rocket from 25 yards out at 81:31 to close the scoring at 5-1.

Senior goalie Bri Thibeau (Salem, N.Y./Salem) stopped two shots to earn her 18th collegiate win in the first 81:31. Freshman Karlee Burdick (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) didn't face a shot in the final 8:29 for her college debut. Banner finished with 12 saves.

Potsdam outshot Elmira 22-12 and had a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Bears are back in action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening when they head across town to face Clarkson University.
