Vautour, Hovey pace Saints men's lacrosse at Utica

Tommy Hovey and Jeremy Vatour combined for six goals and six assists as St. Lawrence University's men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 with a 11-4 win over Utica College in Utica Wednesday afternoon.

The 2-0 Saints pulled away from a 4-3 lead with two goals in the final 3:29 of the first half and made it an 8-3 game with the first two goals of the second half. The Pioneers got it to 8-4 with a man-up goal by Matt Miller with 1:10 gone in the final quarter, but the Saints scored the final three goals of the game to lock it up.

Vautour had three goals and four assists and Hovey had three goals and two assists to lead the Saint offense. Connor Brimley added two goals and an assist as the Saints outshot Utica 27-20 and were 10 for 13 on clears.

Nick Ford made eight saves for the Saints in goal and Jack Roberts had three ground balls and six caused turnovers with Robby Dowers adding three ground balls to lead the Saints.

Charlie Duprey scored from Vautour 5:38 into the game and the Saints never trailed, although the Pioneers kept it close until the end of the first half.

Duprey and Brimley had two goals each and Jamie Denicola added a goal for the Saints. Charlie Jennings added an assist for the Saints. Ryan Deseveaux had two goals for Utica while goalie Andrew DiOrio had nine saves for the Pioneers.

The Saints will play at Nazareth on Saturday in their next outing.
