Poughkeepsie, NY - Leading in points off turnovers 24-7, Vassar College utilized the miscues of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to defeat the Golden Knights 67-50 in Liberty League action Friday night.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall below .500 overall on the season, dropping to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference, while Vassar improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in league games. Clarkson will look to get back on track tomorrow afternoon when it faces Bard College.

In the first half, Clarkson and the Brewers were producing points at a steady rate, totaling 28 in the first five minutes of the contest which was tied at 14-14. In the next three minutes, however, Clarkson stalled while Vassar kept scoring, tallying eight straight. The margin would stick around that size or larger until Cara Manfredi (Glastonbury, CT) nailed a 3-pointer at the 3:39 mark, narrowing the gap to just seven points (31-24). Vassar would push its lead to as many as 13 points in the first half, but a Stephanie Grobe (White River Junction, VT) jumper with three seconds remaining brought the Knights back within 11 at intermission.

In the second half, Clarkson was back within 10 points (47-37) at the 13:59 mark, but scored only two more points in the next seven minutes as Vassar used a 15-2 run, capped by a Cydni Matsuoka 3-pointer, to take a 62-39 lead with 7:01 to go. The Brewers maintained that advantage until Clarkson chipped away in the waning moments to reduce the gap to 17 points.

Manfredi started the game hot, making four of her five 3-point field goal attempts, but was limited to just one more long distance shot for the remainder of the game and finished with 15 points. Sophomore Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) added in a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. For Vassar, Matsuoka produced 18 points and six assists while Allyson Pemberton tossed in 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting. Hannah Senftleber nearly tallied a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, also adding in a pair of blocks. Nyah Berg contributed 10 points as well, and Caitlin Drakely had nine points and eight boards.
