Vassar College broke a 1-1 tie with a goal by Tina Caso 8:32 into the second half and went on to post a 3-1 Liberty League field hockey win over St. Lawrence at Vassar Saturday afternoon.
Vassar, 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Liberty League, took an early lead just 6:19 into play when Caso redirected a long ball to the front of the net from Hilary McDonell past Saint goalie Nicole Matos for her eighth goal of the year.
The Saints tied it when Kara Pelosi scored on a penalty stroke 3:28 into the second half, but Caso redirected a pass from Anna Schroeder into the goal at 43:32 and the Brewers added an insurance goal when Bianca Zarrella scored from Schroeder off a penalty corner at 62:15 to complete the scoring.
Matos was credited with one save as Vassar put just four of 17 total shots on goal while Maggie Brelis made six saves for the Brewers. Vassar had a 17-12 overall edge in shots and had 13 penalty corners to four for the Saints.
SLU, now 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty League will host Morrisville on Tuesday and travel to Nazareth on Friday in its next outings.
