Seniors Elkie Vandenbeemt and Anna Young have been tabbed to captain the women's tennis team as the Saints enter 2014-15 after posting the best record in the program's recent history at 16-4 overall last season.

"Anna and Elkie have both made an indelible impact on our program, leaving it off better than they found it four years ago," Head Coach Greg Kreitzer said. "Our grades, team results, team cohesiveness, and team work ethic have all positively evolved thanks to their leadership."

Vandenbeemt played at No. 1 for the Saints throughout 2013-14 and earned first team All-League honors in singles and was a unanimous selection for All-League doubles with partner Morgan McNeal. Often playing some of the top players in the region, she finished with a 10-9 record in singles play, while posting a 15-2 mark with McNeal in doubles, including a perfect 4-0 against league opponents.

Young played the majority of her singles matches in 2013-14 in the fifth position, where she went 12-3. A trio of wins in the fourth spot brought her to a team-high 15 total victories in singles play. Additionally, she was a combined 12-6 in doubles matches, with all but one win coming with partner Georgia Comber.

"In their own ways—Anna with her positivity, grit, and ability to relate to others, Elkie with her tireless work ethic and devotion to the program – they will both make great leaders for our incoming freshman class," Kreitzer added.
