RYE, N.Y.—Manhattanville College (6-4-3) scored six first period goals en route to a 7-1 non-conference road victory over the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team (6-7-2) on Friday night. Scott Hudson scored two goals to lead the Valiants and Evan Michalchuck had a goal and two assists.

The Valiants opened up a 2-0 lead by the 13:36 mark, but the Bears cut the advantage in half 42 seconds later on the power play. Senior captain Sy Nutkevitch and freshman forward Trevor Cope set up junior forward Bill Tsekos for his sixth tally of the season. Just 25 seconds after the goal Manhattanville regained its two-goal lead. The marker was the beginning of a four-goal run to end the period and the Valiants led 6-1 at the first intermission. The Bears were outshot 23-6 in the opening period.

Potsdam successfully slowed Manhattanville’s offense in the second period. Bears freshman goaltender Dylan Ellis stopped all 17 shots he faced in the period, while Potsdam took 15 of its own. However, the Bears were unable to draw any closer in the middle 20 minutes.

The Valiants didn’t let up in the third period, outshooting Potsdam 13-5. Manhattanville tacked on a power-play goal at the 14:58 mark to close the scoring at 7-1.

Senior goalie Kevin McFarland started in goal, making 14 saves and allowing five goals in the first 16:09. Ellis stopped 32 shots and allowed two goals in the final 42:58. Valiant goalie Pierre-Olivier Lemieux finished with 25 saves for the victory.

The Bears get another shot at Manhattanville at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
