The St. Lawrence University volleyball team saw its 2013 season come to an end on Friday night, as the Union College Dutchwomen handed the Saints a 3-0 loss in Potsdam, NY in the Liberty League Semifinal match. The Saints, who split the regular season meetings with Union, lost the rubber match 25-16, 25-15, 25-21.

The win earns Union (22-10) a spot in the conference title game tomorrow at 4:00pm against the hosting Golden Knights of Clarkson. The Saints finish the year with a 21-12 overall record.

Junior captain Jenna Street finished with 20 assists and 10 digs to lead St. Lawrence, which could not overcome offensive struggles as the team had 12 errors in the first set along and eight service errors in the match. Rajpreet Dhaliwal was outstanding for the Dutchwomen, finishing with nine kills and no errors, while Kelly White and Rachel Wyman had seven kills each.

The Dutchwomen used a couple of minor runs midway through the first two sets to take modest leads and build them into margins that could not be overcome by the Saints. Leading by just three (13-10) midway through the first, Union used a five-point run which was capped off by a Morgan Clark kill, making the score 18-10. The Dutchwomen played just ahead of even the rest of the way and held on for a 25-16 win in the first set. In the second, Union never trailed but was again up by just three (9-6) before a 7-2 run, pushed to the end by a kill from Wyman put the Dutchwomen in position to take off for another sound victory and a 2-0 cushion.

St. Lawrence battled for its season in the third set, as the two teams seesawed back and forth throughout. Union was able to take a four-point lead at 22-18, but the Saints rallied behind Street and a kill from Amanda Brooks, which made it 22-21 and forced Union to call timeout. Out of the huddle, though, the Dutchwomen were able to steal the momentum, winning the final three points including a match-clinching kill from Wyman, earning the 25-21 win in the third set.

Union hit .318 in the match, with Dhaliwal striking at a .500 clip with nine kills and Clark hitting at .600 with six kills. Clark also added in six of the Dutchwomen's 14 block assists. St. Lawrence hit only .078, struggling to get clean looks around Union's block, with Lexi Brown producing nine kills.
