Ithaca, NY – Three members of the Clarkson University Swimming team swam in the "A" heat finals on Friday night, marking the third day of the UNYSCSA meet as the most successful for the Golden Knights thus far.

The Golden Knights' men currently sit in 12th place among 14 teams with 219 points, while the women are in 14th out of 15 teams with 109 points. Saturday will close out the final events of the UNYSCSA meet.

The best showing of the day came for the men in the 100 breaststroke as two Clarkson swimmers made it into the "A" heat finals, but unfortunately only one scored. Kyle Hancock (Essex, VT) broke the school mark in that event by a tenth of a second, bettering a 17-year-old mark with a time of 59.03 for fifth place in the preliminaries, but he was disqualified in the finals and therefore didn't accrue any points for the Knights' team score. Sophomore Jon Ketcham (East Aurora, NY) wasn't far behind and snuck into the top heat with a time of 59.24, then nearly topped Hancock's preliminary time with a 59.10, good enough for seventh in the finals. For the women, Kelly Ludeke (Burnt Hills, NY) finished in 24th to score points for Clarkson, finishing the race with a time of 1:11.61.

For the fourth time this weekend, Al Catano (Ronkonkoma, NY) was faster than the previous 100 backstroke record set five years ago, but the junior saved his best for last, coming in sixth place in the finals of the event with a time of 51.41 seconds, more than a second and a half better than the five-year-old standard and nearly half a second faster than the pace he set on Thursday. For the women, the top time in the 100 backstroke belonged to freshman Sarah Halstead (Milford, NH), who came in 35th with a time of 1:04.96.

In the 200 butterfly, Sam Zwierzchowski (East Amherst, NY) made the finals by taking 24th in the preliminaries, beating his seed time by seven seconds. Just behind Zwierzchowski, Nick Short (Endwell, NY) and Nate Menapace (Baldwinsville, NY) were in 25th and 26th place, respectively. In the women's 200 butterfly, Jackie Yeaton (Merrimack, NH) became the first Clarkson female to make it into the finals, by taking 22nd in 2:28.90 in the preliminaries. She was faster by more than a second in the finals of the same event, but fell a spot to 23rd, swimming with a time of 2:27.69.

Finally, in the 800 freestyle relay, the top Clarkson squad came in 11th with a time of 7:27.32 as Tyler Nichols (Spencerport, NY), Nick Short, Chris Bay (Greene, NY) and Sam Zwierzchowski teamed together to pick up some much needed scoring. In 24th was Clarkson's "B" squad, led by Ray Bailey (Galway, NY), Paul Kreppel (Clarence, NY), Kyle Atkinson (Baldwinsville, NY) and Alex Trass (Greene, NY), who finished with a time of 7:33.02. Clarkson's women came in 13th in the 800 freestyle relay, with a foursome of Deonna Coleman (Derby, NY), Kelly Ludeke, Abby Luber (Camillus, NY) and Kelly Mulvehill (Penfield, NY) combining for a time of 8:39.55.
