Junior Marissa Turner won three events and a quartet of newcomers ran a meet record in the Distance Medley Relay as St. Lawrence University's women's track and field team opened its indoor season with a convincing win in the Saint Holiday Relays.

The Saints finished with 203 points with the University of Ottawa second with 172 in the meet. Carleton University and the Ottawa Lions Track Club also had competitors in the meet.

Turner won the high jump with a 1.60 meter jump, the 400 in 1:00.71 and debuted in the long jump with a win at 5.20 meters in her first collegiate competition in the event. She led a sweep of the top three spots in the high jump as Hannah Klossner was second at 1.45 meters and Sarah Francesconi was third at 1.40 meters and Molly Lennon was third and Jacquelin Ebeling was fourth in the 400.

An all-rookie Distance Medley Relay of Carrie Pomainville, Hannah Fake, Ashley Leta and Megan Kellogg ran 12:44.08 to set the meet record and meet ECAC qualifying standards in that event. All four runners were members of the Saint cross country team in the fall season.

Meghann Wood won the shot put, leading a Saint sweep and Leah Conners led another sweep of the top three spots in the weight throw. Wood threw 10.80 meters with Conners second and Mariah Dignan third in the shot and Conners threw 11.71 to win the weight with Dignan second and Wood third.

Lisa Grohn was second in the mile in 5:11.88, Catherine Rowell was second in the triple jump while Alexis Bruno was third in the 800 and Ketura Mason finished third in the 200. Ebeling added a fourth with Carly Stine fifth in the 60 hurdles. Shauna Bulger was third in the pole vault.

The 4x400 relay team of Jaleigh Pier, Kenna Johnson, Rowell and Lennon finished second in 4:26.14 and the 4x200 relay also finished second, running 1:49.38.

The Saints are now off for exams and the holidays and will return to action with the St. Lawrence Invitational on Jan. 17.
