Turner leads Saints in women's indoor track opener

St. Lawrence University senior Marisa Turner won two individual events and anchored a winning relay team as the Saint women's indoor track and field team opened its season with the Saint Holiday Relays at the Newell Field House Saturday afternoon.

The Saints finished second to the University of Ottawa in the team scoring, but limited the participation of members of their cross country team who will be significant point scorers as the season progresses. Ottawa won the meet with 184 points while the Saints were second with 179, Plattsburgh third with 43, Carlton University fourth with 25 and Algonquin College scored two points.

Turner won the 400 meters in 58.68 seconds, the high jump at 1.65 meters and anchored the winning 4x200 relay which went 1:51.08. She joined Chinelo Asanya, Taylor Scribner, and Jaleigh Pier on the relay team.

Other Saint champions in the meet included Meghann Wood, who won the shot with a 11.79 meter throw, Hannah Fake who won the pole vault at 2.45 meters, Leah Conners, who won the weight throw with a 12.17 meter mark, and Allison Scarf, who won the triple jump at 10.37 meters.

Mariah Dignan was second, Jessica Potter third and Sara Norberg fourth in the weight throw while Morgan Rosser was second in the triple jump while Holly Ricatelli finishing third.

The Saint 4x400 relay team of Anna Breton, Elina Breton, Teresa Grigg and Scarf finished third in 4:31.88 and the Distance Medley Relay of Lisa Grohn, Gaelyn Bronson, Caroline Driscoll and Sarah Moon was second in 13:17.76.

Scarf also finished third in the shot put and 60 meter hurdles while Asanya was third in the 60 and 200.

Grace Kelly finished third in the long jump with Teresa Grigg fourth and Kelly was also third in the high jump. Courtney Mullen was fourth in the 800.
