Alfred, NY – Fran Trombley (Dekalb Junction, NY) scored her second goal of the season to tie the game early but a strong offensive performance from the Saxons led host Alfred University to a 7-1 win on Saturday.
The hosts got the scoring started just 47 seconds in as Mariana Crevison found the back of the net on an unassisted marker. Trombley responded at the 4:52 mark when she beat the opposing goalkeeper for the second time in four games.
The Saxons tacked on four more goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead into intermission. Alfred would continue to control play in the second stanza as Keturah Gordon and Mariana Crevison added markers for the 7-1 final.
Alfred held a 14-8 shots on goal advantage and corner kicks were dead even at four apiece. Liz Lynch (North Lawrence, NY) turned aside eight shots, while Sammy Jo Shanahan made seven saves for Alfred.
The women's soccer team has a quick turnaround as they stay in Alfred, NY for a 12 p.m. battle with Alfred State College on Sunday.
