BUFFALO – A trio of players posted double-doubles but the SUNY Canton women's basketball team dropped an 89-54 road decision at Villa Maria College on Friday evening.
Taylor Saltus nearly posted a triple-double on 15 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, while Allison Fink and Randi Conway finished with 16 and 12 points, respectively. The duo also hauled down 10 rebounds apiece for SUNY Canton (4-14). Kim McCarthy chipped in six points and eight boards.
The teams battled throughout the opening quarter as the Vikings (12-8) took a slim 20-17 lead after 10 minutes of play. The hosts pulled away outscoring Canton, 25-8, in the second quarter to take a 45-25 lead into intermission.
The Vikings continued to control play in the second half holding on for the convincing victory. Shaquana Owens (25) and Armoni Jordan (23) paced Villa with a combined 48 points, while Nyree brown (12) and Leah McQuiller also scored in double figures.
The women's basketball team has a quick turnaround as they visit SUNY Delhi on Saturday at 2 p.m.
