St. Lawrence University head women's hockey coach Chris Wells has announced that the trio of Dayle Wilkinson ‘14, Mel Desrochers ‘14 and Rylee Smith '14 will serve as captains for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
"Once again, the players have done a great job identifying the leaders of this team," said Coach Wells, who enters the 2013-14 season with a career record of 99-67-21. "I know this group is really looking forward to leaving their mark on our program, which has had great success."
Wilkinson and Desrochers have been a solid defensive pairing for the past few seasons. Wilkinson is considered one of the top defensive defenseman in ECAC Hockey, while Desrochers is a solid two-way player with 16 goals and 27 assists in her career.
Meanwhile, Smith totaled 34 points (15g,19a) last season, including both goals in the conference semifinals against Cornell University. With the two points, the Hagersville, ON native reached the 100 point mark in her career, becoming the 20th Saint to reach the milestone.
"Each captain brings a certain aspect of leadership that is needed by our team," added Coach Wells. "For the same reasons why we recruited them to play at St. Lawrence, they will get to lead our team for their final year."
