St. Lawrence University junior Matt Dodge and sophomores Ashley-Kate Durham and Ann West all earned top-20 showings on Friday in the Giant Slalom at the 2011 Dartmouth Carnival at the Dartmouth Outing Club.
Durham and West each picked up top-10 finishes in the women's event, with Durham leading the way in eighth place overall with a time of 1:58.55. Her 33.0 points, which came on the Timmins, ON native's eighth-career top-10, helped the Saints finish in sixth place overall in the team standings.
West followed only two spots behind in 10th overall, which was the Boulder, CO native's second collegiate top-10 finish. First-year student Hayley Best closed out the team's scoring with a 37th place finish.
Rookie Caroline Barry (43rd), junior Elena Rogers (47th) and senior Kelly Skinner (DNF) also competed in the women's GS.
On the men's side, Dodge logged a career-best 18th place finish behind a time of 1:57.06. The Meredith, NH native picked up 25.0 points for the men's team, which was seventh in the team standings with 58.0 points.
Senior Thatcher Jacques and rookie Nick Scalia capped the scoring for the Scarlet and Brown with 31st and 34th place finishes, respectively. Sophomore Cory Ransom (41st) and first-year students Ben DeFlavio (43rd) and Dustin Martin (53rd) rounded out the team's roster in the GS.
The University of Vermont won both alpine events on Friday at the Dartmouth Carnival, as the women earned 123.0 points and the men totaled 136.0. Jonathan Nordbotten earned an individual win for the Catamounts in the men's GS, while Dartmouth's Courtney Hammond claimed the women's title for the host school.
Both the St. Lawrence men's and women's alpine teams will compete in the slalom tomorrow.
