Senior Lauren Quattrocchi and sophomores Cara Waterson and Caroline Dalton scored 12 points each to pace the St. Lawrence University Women's Basketball team to a season-opening 75-45 win over Misericordia University Friday night in the first round of the Rose City Classic Tournament at Drew University in Madison, NJ.

"It was a great start to our season," said Head Coach Dan Roiger. "I think we played well in many phases of the game on both offense and defense. We were very inconsistent but that's normal at this time of the year."

After Misericordia (0-1) scored the first basket of the game, Dalton answered with a 3-pointer to give St. Lawrence (1-0) the lead for good at 3-2. The teams traded baskets before the Saints went on a 10-0 run to open up an 11-point lead in the first 3:34 of the contest.

Misericordia cut the lead to six points late in the first quarter before Quattrocchi hit a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to regain control and the Saints ended the first 10-minute period leading 24-16.

In the second quarter, the Saints built and maintained a double-digit lead and five late free throws with two from Ellie Gonyeau and three by Hunter Hitchman opened up a 17-point advantage as the teams headed to the halftime intermission.

In the third quarter, a 3-pointer by Shayna Davner, a pair of free throws by Jenny Scudder and another jumper by Davner allowed St. Lawrence to open up a 25-points lead.

Waterson's 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter followed by a fast break layup by Kaelyn Kohlasch gave the Saints a 31-point lead and St. Lawrence cruised through the rest of the game maintaining the 30-point lead down the stretch.

"It was also nice that everybody got to play in the season opener, and for freshman, many of which will play key roles for us this season, to gain some experience," added Roiger.

A total of 12 different players scored for the Saints as the team shot 41% from the field and 42% from beyond the 3-point line and connected on 13-of-16 free throws for an 81% rate. St. Lawrence forced 23 turnovers and held a 14 rebound advantage as Gonyeau led the Saints with nine rebounds including seven offensive rebounds.

The Saints will face host Drew University at 4 pm Saturday for the tournament championship. The Rangers scored an 84-50 win over Penn State (Lehigh Valley) earlier Friday night.
