Adam Beek's goal in the 59th minute was enough for Skidmore College to knock the nationally-ranked No. 2 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team from unbeaten ranks with a 1-0 Liberty League win, Saturday in Saratoga Springs, NY.

The Thoroughbred win improves their record to 6-1-1 (2-0 Liberty League) and snaps a 17-game Liberty League St. Lawrence unbeaten streak. The Saints move to 6-1, 0-1 on the season.

"It was a disappointing day," said St. Lawrence head coach Bob Durocher. "We had a couple great scoring opportunities that we couldn't finish. We were off our game today. I give Skidmore credit, they came out and wanted it harder than we did. We will look to bounce back tomorrow."

Each team had a handful of chances in the scoreless first half. In the 23rd minute, senior Sam DeMello had a good look off a restart at the top of the box, but Thoroughbred freshman goalie Eli Kisselbach was there for the save.

In the 33rd minute, Skidmore had a chance on an indirect restart inside the box. Beek had a good look, but his shot was blocked by the St. Lawrence defense. In the 43rd minute, Brian Mitko had a look off a restart, but senior goalkeeper Nate Goss-Woliner stopped the shot.

The Thoroughbreds got on the board in the second half when Brock Bakewell sent a midfield pass to Beek who was headed down the right side. Beek collected the ball, spun through a defender, then fired a shot that found the net far side.

Skidmore continued to apply pressure for the remainder of the game and the nation's eighth ranked defense contained the Saints' attack, until the final seconds. The Saints had the last shot, but Kisselbach made a save on an senior Alex Laird's header with four seconds on the clock.

St. Lawrence outshot Skidmore 20-10 and each team had seven corners. Kisselbach finished with 10 saves, seven in the first half, while Goss-Woliner had four saves.

The Saints will take on SUNY Canton tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 pm at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
