Third straight win for Kellogg and the Saints women's xcountry

St. Lawrence University sophomore Megan Kellogg won her third straight race, and ran one of the fastest times in course history, leading the Saint women's cross country team to its third Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Invitational title in the last four years.

Kellogg ran 21:59.5, the second best time in program history for a Saint runner on their home course, and edged Ottawa's Katie Phillips by 12.5 seconds. Saint junior Lisa Grohn was third in 22:15.6 while Ruth Burrows of Ottawa was fourth in 22:18.6 and Ashley Leta of the Saints finished fifth in 22:56.9.

Phillips and Burrows went out fast and led through a good part of the race, but Kellogg and Grohn stayed within striking distance and Kellogg surged to the front as the race drew to a close.

The Saints placed five in the top ten and its top seven in the top 17 finishers in the race to win with 28 points with the University of Ottawa second with 32 and Clarkson third with 97. Carleton University was fourth with 114 followed by Potsdam with 150, Jefferson Community College with 167 and Paul Smith's with 169.

Sophomore Marla Davidson was the fourth Saint finisher in 10th, scoring ninth with a time of 23:55.2 and Elina Breton completed the Saint scoring, 11th overall and scoring 10th in 23:58.4. Sarah Moon finished 13th and scored 12th in 24:13.1 and Caroline Driscoll completed the Saint top seven, 19th overall in 24:20.2.

Other Saint finishers included the group of Anna Breton in 23rd, Alexis Bruno in 24th and Abigail Bourcy in 25th; Carrie Pomainville in 29th, Courtney Mullen in 34th, Emma Putre in 35th, Madeline Funk in 37th, Miabelle Salzano in 47th, Rachel Waldrop in 57th with Annika Hamilton 60th, Alexis Haley 62nd, Margaret MacDonald 64th, Laurence Leinders in 66th, Mara Delaney in 68th and Bridget Benz in 71st.

The Saints will run the NCAA Pre-Regional at Geneseo on Oct. 3.
