Monaca, PA – Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team fell 51-30 to Carlow University in the Penn State Beaver Tip-Off. The Roos fall to 0-1, while the Celtics improve to 2-1.
SUNY Canton took an early 5-4 lead after a made jumper by Joelle Percy (Black River, NY). Carlow would answer with 10 of the next 11 points to open up a 14-6 advantage. The Roos got within four but it was the Celtics who would take a 28-14 lead into intermission. Both teams struggled offensively in the opening 20 minutes shooting less than 40 percent from the field as 17 Roo turnovers proved costly.
Carlow scored the first 14 points out of break to open up a 28 point lead that SUNY Canton was unable to overcome. Terrance paced the Roos with game-highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Janelle Bradish (Massena, NY) hauled in nine boards in her first game as a Roo.
SUNY Canton held a 37-33 edge on the glass. The Roos hit just 22 percent of their shots while the Celtics converted 35 percent of their field goal attempts. A big difference in the outcome was 28 Carlow points off of 26 SUNY Canton turnovers.
The women's basketball team is back in action on Sunday when will play in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
