Canton, NY – Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) tallied her third double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as a strong second half from visiting Houghton College gave them a 73-58 victory Friday evening at the Roos House. The win improves the Highlanders to 4-5, while the Roos drop to 2-5.
Terrance paced SUNY Canton with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. The sophomore shot 5-for-11 from the field and finished with a game-high six offensive boards. Joelle Percy (Black River, NY) posted 15 points and six rebounds, while Janelle Bradish (Massena, NY) added 10 points and five rebounds. Stephany Ellison led four different Highlanders in double figure points finishing with team-highs of 18 points, eight boards and seven assists.
Houghton led by as many as six in the first half taking a 14-8 lead. The Roos used a 6-0 spurt to tie it at 14 apiece. The hosts would take a brief 28-26 lead with 3:54 left in the opening half after a trey from Percy. The Highlanders closed the stanza on a 9-2 run to take a 35-30 lead at intermission. Terrance led all players with 14 points and eight rebounds in the first half.
Houghton controlled the second half as they extended their lead to as many as 24 points en route to the 73-58 victory. The visitors shot 46 percent from the field while SUNY Canton hit on just 33 percent of its field goals. The Highlanders held advantages in rebounds (45-38), points in the paint (44-30), fast break points (18-4) and bench points (17-6).
The women's basketball team is back in action Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when it hosts visiting Clarkson University in the Roos House.
