Montreal, QUE – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team received double digit scoring efforts from Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) and Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) but fell to the University of Maine at Fort Kent, 74-53, in the Martin Luther King Classic in Montreal on Saturday.
Terrance posted 17 points and 15 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season, while Sayer tied her season-high with 13 points. Alicia Uhlein (Watertown, NY) tallied nine points, four steals and three assists and Joelle Percy (Black River, NY) finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
The Roos shot 36 percent from the field, while the Bengals hit on 55 percent of their field goals. Skyler Olsen (16) and Kelsey Heard (12) paced Maine Fort Kent in the scoring column.
The Bengals scored the first five points of the game and never trailed opening up a 14 point first half lead at 37-23. Maine Fort Kent would take a 43-32 lead into intermission. Olsen led UMFK with 14 points in the opening half, while Uhlein paced SUNY Canton with nine.
The Bengals continued to dictate play opening the lead to as many as 25 in the second stanza en route to the 74-53 victory. The women's basketball team returns to the hardwood Monday when it travels to crosstown rival St. Lawrence for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
