Taylor repeats as 200 breaststroke champ with SUNYAC record

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Senior Alexander Taylor repeated as the SUNYAC Champion in the 200 breaststroke with a conference record time of 2:05.48. The Bears set five more records on the final day of the conference championships at Erie Community College in Buffalo. The men finished fifth with 267 points while the women placed eighth with a score of 137. Cortland captured the men's team title with 755 points and Geneseo was the women's champion with 732.

Taylor finished first in the 200 breaststroke preliminary, breaking his own SUNYAC meet record with a time of 2:06.48 and then was a second faster to top Geneseo's Ken Pink's 2010 mark in the final. The men's 400 freestyle relay team of senior Richie Zimmerman, sophomore Dan Costa, Taylor and freshman Tyler Zapisek set the school mark in the final, finishing fifth in 3:10.98. Costa qualified for the B final in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:02.26. Zapisek finished fifth in the 100 freestyle final with a time of 0:47.39, less than a second from the Potsdam record.

The women's 400 freestyle relay team of senior Kylie Barr, sophomore Emily Kanoza, sophomore Victoria Blakeslee and senior Liz Ringer reached the final with a school record time of 3:46.43. Blakeslee then set a Bears' record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:28.31 and also qualified for the B final in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.95. Ringer set a Potsdam record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.39 to reach the B final. Junior Ghena Binzer qualified for the B final in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.93.

During the SUNYAC Championships' three days, the Bears won two individual conference titles, set 14 school records and one conference mark.
