Syron homers, Saints top Canton 11-9

St. Lawrence University's baseball team scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning and went on to a 11-9 win over SUNY Canton in the first-ever meeting between the two teams at Tom Fay Field on Monday afternoon.

The Saints, 15-12 and Roos, 15-16 will play a rematch Tuesday at 4 p.m. on the Canton campus.

Junior Mark Syron had three hits in the game including a triple and a home run and drove in three runs while Bryan Palermo, Khifer O'Connor and Chris Fernandez had two hits each.

Chris Kellogg earned the win with six innings of work on the mound while Mike Dell'Olio picked up his third save of the season with two innings of scoreless relief.

Austin Hernandez, Jesse Barton and Phil Tsiaras had two hits each for the Roos while Kevin Hill and Braden Giffin drove in three runs each.

Chris Fernandez had a run-scoring single, Syron hit a three run homer and Zane Fish tripled in two runs in the big second inning while Canton scored three runs in both the top of the seventh and eighth to close to within a run at 10-9. The Saints strung four straight singles in the bottom of the eighth, Devin Robson's hit driving in the insurance run.
