Fourteen members of the Northern TRIBS swim club traveled to Troy this past weekend to attend the season opening Trick or Treat Invitational held at R.P.I. and the team fared well.

“This was our first meet of the season and it really shows the dedication of our swimmers to attend these USA Swimming competitions held mostly around the Albany Region,” Coach Joshua Jock said. “Our swimmers train hard and have fun when they are at these meets, that’s how they become successful. Our swimmers always do a few fast fun races they want to do and one or two other races to test themselves, and they always step up to these challenges sometimes racing against 100 other swimmers in their age group. Paul Braun (from Lisbon) was one of these swimmers this meet who just did an outstanding job executing his race strategy in the 13 & Over Male 500 Free dropping 18.57 seconds from last season to go 5:55.60 and in the 200 IM taking off 21.87 seconds to go 2:30.82. Mia Mousaw from Rensselaer Falls also had a big swim in the 11 – 12 Female 200 Free shaving of 17.06 seconds for a final time of 2:45.07,” he said.

Membership in the swim club “is strong and our swimmers are performing well,” he said.

Practices are held in Canton at the middle school and in Massena at the high school.

“We are seeing a rise in the number of males taking advantage of our programs and we cannot wait to have our female swimmers return to us after their HS season is over,” Jock said.

Northern TRIBS Swimming is a year-round USA Swimming club providing swim lessons, stroke school, competitive age group and senior level practices along with Masters swimming for adults 18-plus.
