Hanover, NH – Chloe Puddifant put in a rebound with just 9.4 seconds left in overtime to help Dartmouth College shock the fourth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team 3-2 in ECAC Hockey action Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 23-7-1 overall and 14-5-0 in league play with their second straight loss, while Dartmouth gained its biggest win in years to improve to 5-20-1 and 4-15-0. Clarkson looks to regroup against Harvard on Saturday afternoon.

It did not appear as if the game would be particularly close after Clarkson opened up with two goals in the first seven minutes of the game. The first score came when Michaela Pejzlova sent a centering pass to Loren Gabel near center ice, and Gabel carried the puck into the Dartmouth defensive end. Drawing two defenders and the goalie to her side, Gabel smartly flipped the puck to the other side of the net where Elizabeth Giguere was waiting, easily flipping the puck into a nearly open net at the 3:48 mark.

Just over three minutes later the Knights made it 2-0 as Kelly Mariani and T.T. Cianfarano played a little give-and-go with Cianfarano finishing off the play with a great individual effort. Mariani gave the puck to Cianfarano near the blue line and the graduate student did the rest, weaving through traffic and throwing the puck on net with a backhand, ending the play by placing the puck five-hole at the 6:50 mark. Emma Keenan also assisted on the play.

Clarkson looked to have all the momentum on its side entering the second, but the Knights and Big Green would exit the period knotted up at 2-2. Clarkson had a decent chance in the early going when Loren Gabel outskated a Dartmouth defender on a breakaway, but she was unable to catch up with the pass to do more than poke the puck at the net. Dartmouth picked up two goals in the final half of the period. The first came with just two seconds remaining on a power-play opportunity as Christina Rombaut collected a second rebound and put the puck home at 14:19. Five minutes later, fortune shined upon the Big Green again when a scrum in front ended in another score for Dartmouth, as Tess Bracken finished off the chance with just 34.8 seconds left in the frame.

The third saw Clarkson enjoy several solid scoring opportunities, but Dartmouth's Christine Honor was up to the task, setting aside 15 shots on goal as the Knights were busy in the Big Green's defensive zone. Clarkson also had chances in the overtime period, but most of its shots ended up in the center mass of Honor as she made six more saves.

With the clock looking to tick down for a tie, Dartmouth suddenly ended up with pressure in Clarkson's end. One shot was denied by Kassidy Sauve, but the rebound quickly found the stick of Puddifant, who wristed in a quick shot with only 9.4 seconds to go in the game.

Clarkson finished the game with a 67-39 edge in shot attempts, though the margin was closer when considering shots on goal (39-28). Sauve made 25 saves for the Knights, while Honor stopped 37 shots for Dartmouth.
