OSWEGO, N.Y.—A healthier SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (15-9) defeated Alfred 3-1 and SUNYIT 3-0 at the Oswego State Invitational. The Bears have won five of their last six matches.
Against the Saxons (4-12) in the 4p.m. match, Potsdam posted scores of 25-11, 13-24, 26-24, and 25-10 for the win. Junior outside hitter Dakota Pruiss led the offense with eight kills. Senior outside hitter Allison Metot and junior middle hitter Anne Fildes each contributed six kills. Sophomore setter Jenna Blujus totaled 32 assists, 13 digs, and four aces and junior libero Jillian Dye finished with 14 digs.
The Bears defeated the Wildcats (12-10) for the second time this season with set victories of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-19. Junior middle hitter Kayla Howard was back in the lineup for the first time since twisting her ankle on Sept. 23, and registered a team-high 10 kills. Pruiss and Metot added eight kills apiece and Blujus recorded 30 assists and 15 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Erin Wagner was impressive off the bench with four aces.
“We got contributions from everyone and got a lot of players into the game,” said pleased Bears Head Coach Steve Pike. “We’re also healthier, which allowed us to stay in system and play a faster tempo. Erin Wagner played very well and Jillian Dye was back in her rhythm and tremendous.”
Potsdam looks to keep their momentum in its two matches tomorrow at times and against opponents yet to be determined.
