FREDONIA -- Junior swimmer Alexander Taylor (Port Ewen, N.Y./Kingston) set a new SUNY Potsdam record in the 200 individual medley and sophomore swimmer Laurissa Coombs (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Ward Melville) swam to victory in the 400 individual medley at the Fredonia State Invitational this weekend.

The host Blue Devils won the women’s competition, while Penn State Behrend finished first in the men’s competition. The Bears’ men and women each finished sixth.

While finishing second in the 200 individual medley, Taylor swam a time of 1:58.76, eclipsing the previous school record set by Ken Glendenning in 1990.

Taylor just missed school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events before winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.74. Coombs posted a time of 4:50.78 to win the 200 individual medley.

The Bears are off until Jan. 14, when they travel to Oswego State for a dual meet with the Lakers at 2 p.m.
