CANTON -- The SUNY Potsdam women ran to a second place finish and the men finished fifth at the 2014 Kangaroo Cross Country Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Hannah Groshner (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) earned the first win of her career Groshner ran a 5k time of 21:00 to lead the pack. Freshman Samantha Tavares (Brooklyn N.Y./Fiorello LaGuardia) was next with a time of 23:55. Juniors Olivia Rehm (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) and Carissa Cuccia (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) crossed the finish line with times of 24:20 and 25:09. Freshman Morgan Cluck (Binghamton, N.Y./Johnson City) rounded out the top five Bears with a time of 25:30.
Freshman Ben Shelton (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) ran a 5k time of 19:00 for the first meet of his career. Senior Joseph Rafter (Fort Covington, N.Y./Brasher Falls) was next with 19:37 and junior Kevin Johnson (Camden, N.Y./Camden) followed right behind him with 19:49. Freshman Devin FitzGerald (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) and Sophomore Ryan Sullivan (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) crossed the finish line at 20:04 and 20:10.
The men and women will travel to Oswego on September 6. The men will compete in the Don Masterson Invitational and the women will run in the Pat Peterson Invitational. The action starts at 11 a.m.
