SARATOGA SPRINGS -- The SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams fell in their season openers at Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon.
The men bowed to the Thoroughbreds 118-109 and the women were downed 134-92.
Leading the way for the men was triple-winner junior Alexander Taylor (Port Ewen, N.Y./Kingston). Taylor captured the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:50.62, the 100 freestyle in 00:49.85, and the 500 freestyle in 5:12.15.
Sophomore Richie Zimmerman (Victor, N.Y./Victor) won both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke with times of 2:05.78 and 1:02.18, respectively.
Senior Ryan Wentz (Pendleton, N.Y./Schalmont) posted the fasted time in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 00:55.69.
Junior Liz Ringer (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) won the women’s 100 butterfly in 00:55.69 and sophomore Ghena Binzer (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) captured the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.48.
The Bears 200 freestyle relay team of sophomore Laura Coombs (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Ward Melville), freshman Victoria Blakeslee (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville), junior Paige Montroy (Cape Vincent, N.Y./Thousand Islands), and junior Kylie Barr (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) also finished first with a time of 1:49.62.
The swimming and diving teams are back in action on Nov. 5, when they travel to Norwich.
