POTSDAM, N.Y. - The SUNY Potsdam men's swimming & diving team swept a pair of North Country foes over the weekend, defeating Clarkson on Friday and St. Lawrence on Saturday at Maxcy Hall Pool.

The women's team (5-2 in dual meets) knocked off Clarkson before falling against St. Lawrence.

On Friday, the men (6-1) posted a 126-11 triumph, while the women emerged victorious by a 106-101 margin.

Senior Dan Callahan (Brewster, N.Y.) and sophomore Alexander Taylor (Port Ewen, N.Y.) paced the men's team with three victories apiece. Callahan won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and was a part of the winning 200-yard medley reley squad. Taylor swam to individual victories in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyles and the 200-yard individual medley. Sophomore Shane Shaffer (Clayton, N.Y.) swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events.

Freshman Laurissa Coombs (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) led the women's team with wins in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard freestyle. Three other individuals and one relay team also scored victories.

On Saturday, in the 2010-11 season finale for both teams, Callahan and Taylor anchored the winning 400-yard medley relay team and won two individual events apiece. Callahan won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races, while Taylor emerged in first place in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.

Coombs and junior Julie Haynes (Malone, N.Y.) tallied the lone triumphs for the women's team. Coombs won the 200-yard backstroke while Haynes took home the 50-yard freestyle.

The Bears return to action for their final dual meet of the year at St. Michael's. The first event is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Colchester, Vt.
