POTSDAM – SUNY Potsdam Women’s Lacrosse Coach Lauren Bruce has announced the appointment of Elisha King as the Bears’ assistant coach for the 2013 season.

“Elisha brings a lot of lacrosse knowledge to our program and has quickly established a great coaching relationship with the team already,” said Bruce. “She brings a lot of energy and fresh ideas from her graduate work at Northeastern in sports leadership and as a current lacrosse player herself.”

King played her collegiate career on defense for the University of Toronto women’s lacrosse team from 2008-2010. Following her graduation, King played for the Toronto Titans senior women’s team. She then moved on to play in the Boston Women’s Lacrosse Association in 2011.

King brings coaching experience to Potsdam as well. While at the University of Toronto, she coached at the Varsity Blues Girls Lacrosse Camp. Next, she served as a coach for the Birchmount High School girls’ lacrosse team in 2010, where she led them to an undefeated regular season.

King has also invested her time at the youth level. She coached the U11 Toronto Beaches lacrosse team and U11 Plymouth Rock Fall Ball. Last year, King returned home and was an assistant coach for the girls’ varsity team at Salmon River Central and was the head coach of the U15 girls’ team with the Akwesasne Attack organization.

King graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor’s degree in history and Native Studies. She is currently pursuing a master’s in sports leadership at Northeastern University. King is currently on the 28-player roster for the Haudenosaunee Nation Women’s Lacrosse team and will compete with the squad at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse Women’s Lacrosse World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.
