The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-11, 0-6 SUNYAC) fell to SUNY Geneseo (9-3, 5-1 SUNYAC) 73-39 Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Carli Reynolds led the Bears with 10 points.

Sophomore forward Bailey Weigel put Potsdam on the board first with a quick jumper at the 19:36 mark. Both teams exchanged baskets for several minutes until the Knights found a spark. Geneseo freshman forward Allison McKenna hit a layup with 16:24 remaining to start an 8-0 run. The Bears would go on a five minute scoring drought until Reynolds connected on a mid range jumper with 12:26 left in the first half. The Knights continued to ride the momentum as a good three pointer from sophomore guard Biz Reinhardt extended the lead to 13 points with 6:52 remaining. The Bears offense struggled to find a rhythm, as the Knights were able to extend their lead to 40-20 at halftime.

Geneseo maintained the momentum from the first half into the second. Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis added a layup and a pair of free throws to extend the Knights lead to 24 points with 17:10 remaining. A seven-minute scoring drought plagued the Bears in the final stanza. Senior guard Katy Briedis converted on her free throw attempts at the 13:04 mark to end the lapse. Potsdam was unable to recover as the Knights cruised to a 73-39 victory.

Potsdam struggled from the floor, shooting 27% and 23% from the three-point line. Geneseo held the advantage in rebounds with 48 to the Bears' 23. Junior guard Chenice Russell totaled seven points. Weigel finished with six points and seven boards.

Freshman guard Dana Cohan led the Knights with 12 points. McGinnis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Kate Peterson added 10 points and five boards.

The Bears return to Jerry Welsh Gymnasium on Jan. 15 when they face Hamilton College at 5 p.m.
