SUNY Canton's Fletcher records 1,000 career points at Old Westbury

Old Westbury, NY – Romario Fletcher posted his seventh consecutive double-double but host Old Westbury pulled away late for an 83-71 victory on Saturday at the Clark Athletic Center. The Panthers improve to 3-5, while the Roos fall to 4-5.

Fletcher, who entered the game needing just six points to reach 1,000 in his career finished with 20 points and now sits at 1,014 career points.

SUNY Canton jumped out to a quick 8-2 start but Old Westbury battled back to lead by as many as eight and took a 40-37 lead into intermission. Fletcher paced the Roos with 12 points in the opening half, while Sam Annorh added 10 points and Walt Jeter chipped in six. Jamail Stanley (12) and Preston Powell (11) paced the Panthers.

Adrian Williams scored the first five points of the second half as the Roos led 42-40. Back-to-back Panther buckets gave the hosts a two point advantage they would not relinquish the remainder of the way.

The Panthers opened up an 11 point lead at 56-45 with 12:57 to play but the Roos used an 8-0 run to trim the deficit to just three (56-53) with 11:30 remaining. Canton again cut the lead to just three with 5:57 to play after an Ibu Smith hit from long distance, but Old Westbury pulled away late for the victory.

Fletcher paced the Roos with 20 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for his seventh straight double-double, while Annorh returned to the lineup to finish with 19 points and four assists. Williams also scored in double figures with 14 points and Jeter recorded nine points and 12 rebounds.

Stanley led all players with 24 points and 13 boards for the Panthers, while Powell (17) and Stephon Odle (11) also scored in double figures. Old Westbury received a huge lift from their bench as they outscored the Canton reserves, 32-6.
