CANTON -- The SUNY Canton women’s soccer team won their third straight game with a convincing 5-0 win over Green Mountain College Tuesday afternoon in Canton.

The Roos, ranked 11th in the USCAA Coaches Poll, scored at least five goals for the third time this season as they improved their record to 4-1 overall.

Tuesday’s game was another dominating performance for SUNY Canton who allowed very few good scoring opportunities by the Eagles while constantly pushing the ball deep in their offensive end of the field for much of the contest. The Roos outshot Green Mountain 22-2 generating 12 shots in the first half as they built an insurmountable 4-0 lead at the break.

“I’m happy with the progress of the team and with the win tonight,” said head coach Kate Thomas-Moody. “The ladies are coming together more and more every day on and off the field. There are a lot of freshmen stepping up and I’m thrilled to see them growing.”

The Roos popped in their first goal just over 10 minutes into the first half. Freshman Karley Cree (Hogansburg, N.Y.) sent a nice pass to the middle and senior Chelsea Allen (Marcellus, N.Y.) finished the play with a terrific shot as she was falling down on the attempt.

Allen scored again seven minutes later unassisted to make it a 2-0 game. With three minutes left in the opening half, junior Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, N.Y.) took a beautiful lead pass from Cree, got behind the defense for a breakaway and fired a low shot past Green Mountain goalie Kim Simonetti for a 3-0 advantage.

The lead would be 4-0 heading into halftime when freshman Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, N.Y.) scored in the 44th minute. Terrance gathered in the ball about 30 yards from the goal and launched a high arcing shot that found the back of the net.

The Roos final tally came in the 67th minute. Terrance launched a corner kick from the left side and Cree beat the defense to the ball and one-timed a quick shot into the net to make the final score 5-0.
