CANTON -- Senior Katlyn Hart (Harrisville, NY) netted two goals and added an assist as the women's soccer team cruised to a 6-1 victory over visiting Wells Sunday afternoon on the campus of SUNY Canton. The win improves the Kangaroos to 2-0, while the loss drops the Express to 0-2.

Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY) got the scoring started as she converted a goal off the opening kick-off. Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, NY) played a pass back to Cree who belted a shot from 20 yards out beating Express goalkeeper Kylie Nishioka in the upper 90. Wells would find the equalizer in the 15th minute when Heather Hiltbrand netted an unassisted marker.

The Roos responded 70 seconds later when Jade Sayward (Willsboro, NY) left the ball for Franchesca Trombley (Dekalb Junction, NY) who beat Nishioka just inside the right post for the 2-1 lead. SUNY Canton held a 5-1 shots on goal advantage and carried a 2-1 lead into intermission.

After earning a one-goal lead in the opening stanza the Roos exploded for four goals after halftime. In the 57th minute Hart received the ball and tore away on a breakaway lobbing the ball over the Wells keeper for the score. Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) and Cree earned assists on the play.

Eight minutes later Hart and Terrance hooked up again as Hart was the recipient of a nice pass and finished the score tipping the ball over the goalie and just under the cross bar for the 4-0 Roos advantage. In the 69th minute Alexis Sweet (Norfolk, NY) fired a shot that was turned aside by Nishioka but the goalie was unable to control the rebound as Sayward was in perfect position to bang home the rebound score.

At the 78:40 mark Nikki HolmesNikki Holmes tallied her first career goal with the Roos as she beat the netminder on a rebound off a Hart shot attempt. In all, the Roos held decisive advantages in shots (25-2), shots on goal (17-2) and corner kicks (8-0).

Brittany Rotach (Brasher Falls, NY) stopped one shot as she was rarely tested on the day, while Nishioka made 11 saves on the 17 shots she faced.

The SUNY Canton women's soccer team will have its first road trip of the season as it travels to take on Green Mountain College on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. The Eagles went 1-1 this weekend at the SUNY Canton Tournament as they also defeated Wells College.
