Syracuse, NY – Kristina DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season but the SUNY Canton women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 road decision to Bryant & Stratton College on Wednesday.

The hosts got on the board first in the 12th minute off a set piece. After a Roos foul in the defensive third Maria Vela took a free kick and found Njemile Charles at the far post who headed home her second goal of the season past Roo keeper Allison Wakefield (Mastic, NY).

The Roos had their first good chance with 21 minutes remaining in the opening half when Kristina DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) dropped off a pass for Katie Lamica (Malone, NY). Lamica delayed and ripped a shot that bounced off the outside of the right post.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead into intermission holding a 12-5 shots and 7-1 shots on goal advantage. Six big first half saves and numerous other strong plays from Wakefield kept SUNY Canton within just one goal at the half.

Eleven minutes into the second half the Roos had a quality chance when Victoria Bean (Essex Junction, VT) took a shot from 25 yards out that bounced off Bobcat keeper Megan Hagadorn's hands and off the crossbar before she corralled it.

Minutes later Shareka Joseph had a tremendous opportunity one on one with the keeper but Wakefield came up with the big save to keep the Roos within one. With just less than 26 minutes remaining the Bobcats added an insurance marker when Portia Davis used a double cutback move to beat Wakefield near post to double the lead.

The Bobcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the 86th minute when Kai Jacobs buried her team-leading 11th of the season. SUNY Canton got on the board 59 seconds later when Ryan Schubert (Centereach, NY) found DiNardo on a quick restart up the middle as she played a beautiful volley over the keeper.

Wakefield made 11 saves in net for the Roos, while Hagadorn turned aside three shots for the Bobcats.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday when it visits SUNY Delhi at 1 p.m.
