Canton, NY – Allison Wakefield made 17 saves but a pair of first-half goals lifted visiting Oswego State to a 2-0 win over the SUNY Canton women's soccer team in non-conference action on Tuesday.

The Lakers (6-5-3) got on the board first in the 16th minute. Audrey Burbidge collected the ball in traffic in the box off a header from Gianna Perri. Burbidge beat a defender and finished into the right corner for the early lead.

With 61 seconds remaining in the opening half the Roos were whistled for a foul at the top of the 18 and Mackenzie Schaffner made them pay when she beat Roo keeper Allison Wakefield into the right corner on a penalty kick. Oswego State held an 11-1 shots on goal advantage as they took a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second half leading to the 2-0 final.

Wakefield stopped 17 shots on the day, one off her career-high for the Roos (3-10-1). Emma Allen made two saves over 81 minutes in the start, while Sophia Portalatin did not face a shot in the final nine minutes.

The women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday when they visit Thomas College at 1 p.m.
