BENNINGTON, Vt. -- Sophomore Megan Mydosh (Warwick, N.Y.) won her first collegiate cross country race on Saturday leading SUNY Canton to their first regular season team title capturing the Mountaineer Invitational at Southern Vermont College.
The Roos won with 35 points beating second-place Paul Smith’s College by 10 points.
SUNY Canton finished 1-2-3 in the race led by Mydosh who shaved 1 minute, 7 seconds off her time from last year’s event to finish first overall in a time of 22:14.
Freshman Kyra Byrne (Queensbury, N.Y.) came in second place in a time of 23:45 and freshman Megan Morrow (Gouverneur, N.Y.) was third posting a time of 23:51. Jessica Nagy (Budd Lake, N.J.) crossed the line in 12th place (26:43) and sophomore Mary Cole (Canton, N.Y.) came in 17th (28:08) for the Roos.
“I’m just incredibly proud of these ladies,” said head coach Katie Kennedy.
“We have a few runners battling injuries and they all really gutted it out on a tough course. This win means a lot for this team and this program.”
The win was the second team title in school history. The Roos also won the Sunrise Conference championship as a member of the NAIA in 2007.
SUNY Canton next runs in the Cazenovia College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29.
