(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The Roos ran their winning streak to three games Saturday night as they posted a 59-43 win over the University of Maine at Machias in a Sunrise Conference game at Clarkson University’s Alumni Gym.

The Roos moved to 6-2 against conference opponents and 8-9 overall and have now won six of their last seven games.

The Roos trailed just one time on Saturday after the Clippers sank an early free throw for a 1-0 lead but back-to-back 3-pointers from Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) put the Roos on top with a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.

SUNY Canton then pushed a three-point lead into double digits using a 23-12 run midway through the opening half. The Roos lead would eventually grow to as much as 17 points after a triple and a steal and fast break layup from Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) with 1:43 left in the half. SUNY Canton eventually led by 16 at the break with a 31-15 lead.

The Clippers did pull within eight points with just over five minutes left in the game but got into foul trouble which the Roos took advantage of hitting several key free throws down the stretch to keep the lead in double figures.

Shoen and Kenyon each scored 16 points as did sophomore Ilijana Todorovic (Banja Luka, Bosnia). Shoen went to the free throw line 15 times and cashed in on 11 of them and she also had six rebounds and three steals. Kenyon finished with three triples and eight boards and Todorovic added five caroms and four steals.

Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.), who was honored prior to the game for scoring her 1,000th point this season, contributed five points and eight rebounds.

Sabree Rodriguez had 18 points and six rebounds to pace the Clippers and Kayla Wood added 14 points.
