Canton – The SUNY Canton women's soccer team was unable to overcome a two goal day from Morrisville State's Ashley Capron dropping a 2-1 decision on Saturday.

Capron got the scoring started in the 38th minute when she cut back right to left beating a defender and slid a shot around Roo goalkeeper Allison Wakefield (Mastic, NY). The Mustangs (1-1) led 1-0 at intermission.

The Roos (0-2) evened the match at one apiece in the 62nd minute. Wakefield punted a long ball that bounced past midfield and was picked up by Kristina DiNardo (Ottawa, ON). After hitting the post earlier in the contest, DiNardo beat Mustang netminder Angela Marriott this time to knot the game at one apiece.

Morrisville regained the lead seven minutes later when Capron collected a loose ball in the box and flicked a shot past Wakefield. The Roos pressed down the stretch but were unable to find the equalizer.

DiNardo had two shots on goal, while Katie Lamica (Malone, NY) and Sydney Kinder (New York, NY) also challenged the keeper twice each. Wakefield and Marriott made six saves apiece.

The Roos open a three game road stretch on Tuesday when they visit SUNY Poly at 7 p.m.
