SUNY Canton volleyball team continues perfect start to season

CANTON -- The SUNY Canton women's volleyball continued its perfect start to the season getting past visiting Wells College, 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-11, 25-16) Saturday afternoon at the Roos House. The win improves the Kangaroos to 3-0, while the loss drops the Express to 1-2.

SUNY Canton got out to a solid start in the first set producing 14 kills on a .250 team hitting percentage resulting in a 25-17 opening set win. The second set was more of a struggle as the Roos had seven kills and seven errors.

However, the team showed its resiliency bouncing back in the pivotal third set tallying 10 team kills in a dominating, 25-11 victory. The Roos had their most impressive hitting performance thus far this season in the fourth set when they pounded 13 kills compared to just two errors, hitting at a .458 clip.

The team had an all-around effort once again led by 13 kills from Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) as she pinpointed her attack attempts to the tune of a .550 hitting percentage.

Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY) and Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) added eight kills apiece, and Grimshaw added a team-high five blocks. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) registered a team-best nine digs, while Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) dished out 30 assists and added four kills, four digs and four blocks.

The Roos are off until Friday when they travel to cross-town rival St. Lawrence University to take part in the Victory Promotions Invitational. SUNY Canton squares off with SLU at 4:00 p.m. before an 8:00 p.m. tilt with St. Michael's College.
