Schenectady, NY – Courtney Hyland hit her first home run of the season but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a doubleheader at Union College on Thursday by scores of 8-0 and 14-3. Union improves to 4-12, while the Roos remain above .500 at 6-5.
Game 1
Dolinko gave up just two hits as Valerie Clark and Lizzie Bimonte were the only Roos to get hits in the opener. Bimonte went a perfect 1-for-1 from the plate also reaching base on a walk. Offensively Union scored twice in the first inning and added four in the fourth as well as one each during the second and third innings for the run-rule win.
Annie Sharlow took the loss on the mound scattering eight hits and seven earned runs over four innings.
Game 2
Kaleigh Foran posted two hits including a double and Courtney Hyland homered but the hosts scored 10 runs in the third inning to earn a 14-3 victory in five innings in the nightcap. Rhea Coad and Clark also drove in runs for the Roos.
Kelsey White took the loss giving up nine earned runs on 11 hits in two innings, while Sharlow pitched the final two innings in relief.
The softball team will host the University of Maine-Presque Isle in its home opener on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
