CANTON -- SUNY Canton scored four straight goals in the second period to pull away to an 8-1 win over Lebanon Valley College Saturday in an ACHA Division I men’s ice hockey game.

The score held at 0-0 after the first period despite an onslaught of shots by the Roos (2-0) who fired 21 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes but could not slip one past Lebanon Valley’s goalie Colin Catherman.

"Another great atmosphere really helped the team out," said head coach Eric McCambly, referring to playing in the college's new ice arena. "The fans and student body were great. We had a terrific defensive effort and executed our game plan to perfection."

Senior Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) finally broke the dam in the second period at the 4:33 mark when he scored his first goal of the year and one of two on the afternoon.

Fellow senior Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) assisted on the goal.

Camp scored his third goal of the weekend at the 10:33 mark from Liggio and Brad Wilson (Orleans, Ontario).

Liggio connected again four minutes later and then freshman Sean Gallagher (Sandwich, Mass.) completed the run scoring from freshman J.R. Lafferty (Williamstown, N.J.) and senior Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.).

The Dutchman got one back with 2:11 left in the second period when Daniel Willey scored an even-strength goal.

The Roos responded with a four-goal outburst in the final period to put the game away. SUNY Canton had an overwhelming 53-16 advantage in shots on goal and special teams came up big for the second straight day connecting on three power play goals and killing every man advantage the Dutchman were awarded.

"We did a great job limiting their shot production whiled helped lead to instant offense," said McCambly.

Sophomore Michael Pittman (Amarillo, Texas) got the win stopping 15 of 16 shots in his first start of the season and Catherman finished with 45 saves for Lebanon Valley, who dropped to 0-3 overall.

The Roos hit the road next weekend when they play at Binghamton University on Friday, Oct. 7 and at Scranton University on Saturday, Oct.8
