Canton, NY – Edward Malinoski, Jr. tallied his 19th career goal but visiting Husson University scored three unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 victory over the SUNY Canton men's soccer team in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Husson (2-4-1, 1-0-0 NAC) jumped out to a quick lead just 54 seconds in. Kyle Townsend played a beautiful goal kick nearly three-quarters length of the field to the feet of Nathan Firlings who chipped one past Roos keeper Mouhammed Thiam.

The Roos (1-3-2, 0-1-0 NAC) responded early in the seventh minute off a beautiful set piece as Kevin Velasquez found Edward Malinoski, Jr. who headed the ball off a diving Townsend and off the left post and in.

The Eagles regained the lead in the 21st minute converting off a corner kick as Rod Ghanayem delivered a ball off the head of Dylan Bryce and under the cross bar. Thiam made a huge save off a Firlings header with 20 minutes remaining in the opening half to keep SUNY Canton within one.

Husson extended its lead to two in the 39th minute following a long punt from Townsend that bounced off the feet of a defender. Ian Lee took a shot from just outside the box that went off the hands of Thiam and just across the goal line. The Eagles held a 3-1 lead at intermission with a 5-1 shots on goal advantage.

Joao Passoni added his second goal of the season in the 60th minute leading to the 4-1 final.

Mouhammed Thiam made three saves for the Roos, while the defense also made a pair of stops. Townsend made one stop in the start, while Benjamin Powell stopped two shots over the final 21 minutes.

The men's soccer team returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Southern Vermont College at Applejack Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
