LYNN, Mass. -- The SUNY Canton men’s basketball team put on a dominating second-half performance but came up one basket short in a 71-69 loss to Fisher College on Sunday in Lynn, Mass.

Junior Khalid Vaughn (New York, N.Y.) scored 20 of his game-high 26 points after the break converting 6 of 7 free throws and Junior Scott Dixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied nine of his 12 points in the second half and sank three of his four 3-pointers during that stretch.

The Roos (2-6) fell into a 43-20 hole at halftime but then exploded for 49 points in the second half shooting 47 percent from the field, including 5-for-10 from three-point range, and an impressive 8-for-9 from the free throw line.

SUNY Canton reeled off a 36-13 run over the first 11 minutes of the second half on Sunday and tied the game and pulled ahead by a single point at 57-56 following two free throws from freshman Michael Pulci (Staten Island, N.Y.) with 7:48 left on the clock.

Fisher went back ahead 58-57 on their next possession but the Roos kept hanging around and stayed within one point at 67-66 after Dixon canned a triple with less than five minutes to go. Fisher went back ahead by five points, 71-66 but again the Roos cut into the lead with a triple from freshman Kornel Smith (Bronx, N.Y.) with 2:26 remaining but SUNY Canton misfired on their final three shots and the Falcons were able to hold on for the win.

Vaughn finished with his second straight double-double as he grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with seven assists and four steals. Smith ended the day with seven points and four boards and sophomore Xzavier Fisher (Plymouth, Pa.) added six points, six rebounds and three steals.

Ryan McCorkle scored 24 points and snagged seven rebounds to lead Fisher and Tyler Shuler added 12 points and four rebounds.
