(Canton, N.Y.)- Seniors Chris Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and Danielle Swanston (Burke, N.Y.) and junior Mike Reilly (Colton, N.Y.) have each earned a 2013 Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award.
In order to be considered for this award, student-athletes were nominated by their campus athletic director. Nominees' academic credentials and athletic accomplishments were then reviewed by a panel of athletic directors from across the SUNY system and members of the provost's office.
Giczewski, a forward on the men's ice hockey team for four years, was an assistant captain this past season and scored two goals in 22 games. He was named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-Academic team and he received the Make-A-Difference Award from the athletic department for his outstanding leadership in numerous community service projects and his academic success.
Swanston, an outside hitter on the women's volleyball team, was named a USCAA Second Team All-American and also made the All-Academic Team, helping SUNY Canton to a fourth place finish at the USCAA national championship. Swanston averaged 2.1 kills and 1.95 digs per set, had a .256 hitting percentage and recorded 12 blocks in 29 matches.
Reilly notched two individual wins for the men's golf team this past fall, winning the Cazenovia Invitational with a 1-over par 72 and the Lou Jarvis Invitational at Johnson State shooting a 5-over par 77. Reilly was the Roos top finisher in six invitationals, and he posted a stroke average of 80.0 in 11 rounds and was named to the USCAA All-Academic Team.
