Rochester, NY – The SUNY Canton baseball team held a 1-0 lead through four innings but No. 24 nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College scored six runs in the fifth and eighth innings to earn a 6-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Roos got on the board first in the second inning as Brandon Welch led off with a double off the right field wall and he advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Christian Nazario-Cruz. Trevor Keleher singled through the right side with one out to plate Welch.

The host Cardinals took their first lead of the game in the fifth on a Pasquale sacrifice fly to right field and a Ryan homer to left. Fisher added four insurance runs in the eighth on a Murphy solo shot to right, a Pasquale RBI double to left center, a Ryan RBI double to right center and Graham RBI single to center.

Seth Douglas took the loss on the mound giving up six earned runs over seven and two-thirds innings but gave up just three hits through the first four innings. Anthony Brophy improved to 5-0 on the mound for Fisher giving up seven hits and one earned run over eight innings.

Keleher reached base three times and drove in the Roos lone run, while Wilson Matos also finished with a multi-hit outing. Welch and Ben Miller finished with doubles, while Canton native Francesco Palumbo recorded his first collegiate hit.

These two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
