Geneva, NY – Graduate student Abigail Sullivan became the third Clarkson University Cross Country runner in the past 15 years to win the Cross Country-Only Championships as the Golden Knights swept the races in Seneca Lake State Park, hosted by Hobart and William Smith.

The Golden Knights' women won with a team-low score of 21 points, ahead of William Smith (45), D'Youville (119), Cazenovia (127), Elmira (128), Morrisville State (150), Wells (170), SUNY Canton (209) and Medaille (242). The Clarkson men also won its side of the event, but by a slightly narrower margin with a score of 33 points, ahead of Hobart (45), D'Youville (119), SUNY Canton (121), Paul Smith's (141), Morrisville State (148), Elmira (171), Wells (180), Medaille (245), and Villa Maria (269).

Sullivan won the 6,000-meter race by 8.7 seconds, claiming the title with a time of 23 minutes, 25.0 seconds, following up a win by Sarah Duclos last year. Junior exchange student Jessie Muirden finished in the third spot among the 94 competitors with a time of 24:28.4 and freshman Elizabeth Fawwaz was next in fourth in 24:32.3. The Golden Knights also had the fifth-place runner on their squad in senior Katie Ackner, who finished in 24:33.1. Clarkson's team score was completed by junior Erika Abrantes, who placed eighth in 24:44.7. Even if one of the first five faltered, Clarkson's first-place finish was secure thanks to the performances of Kelsey Wenger and Hannah Yorkey, who came in ninth and 10th place, respectively.

On the men's side, senior Seth Richardson was the top runner for the Knights, taking third among 98 runners with a time of 27:57.0 over the 8,000-meter course. Classmate Jack Broderick took fifth in 28:09.7 and freshman Sean Byrnes was one more spot down in sixth in 28:20.02. Another freshman, Kevin Cronin, came in ninth for the Knights in 28:28.6 and sophomore Brandon George rounded out Clarkson's top five by coming in 10th in 28:35.8. Michael Leczinsky and Simon Zehr closed out Clarkson's top seven, coming in 12th and 14th, respectively.
