Canton, NY – Visiting SUNY Geneseo scored five second period goals to earn an 8-5 victory against the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Saturday afternoon.
Vili-Jesper Koivula (Pinsio, Finland) gave the Roos the lead just 59 seconds into the contest off passes from Stuart Fierheller (Lindsay, ON) and Ben Beasley (Burlington, ON). Geneseo responded with a goal off the stick of Conlon Keenan to knot the score at 1-1 at 5:06 on the power play.
SUNY Canton regained the advantage 45 seconds later when Nick Lepone (Richmondhill, ON) scored for the second time this season off passes from Tyler Ralph (Middletown, NJ) and Joe Deveny (Stoufville, ON). Anthony Marra added his first goal of the season as the Knights took advantage of another power play opportunity. The teams skated to first intermission tied at two.
Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) gave the Roos their third lead of the game 2:50 into the middle period with the skater advantage. Koivula and David Hopfer (Tonawanda, NY) earned helpers on the play.
From that point Geneseo scored five of the next six goals, coming from five different goal scorers. Tyler Bullard (Ballston Spa, NY) scored short-handed midway through the period as the Knights led 7-4 after 40 minutes of play.
Patrick Farnan (Clifton Park, NY) lit the lamp for the second time on the season at 12:33 on the power play before Marra added his second of the game for Geneseo leading to the 8-5 final.
Josh Erickson (Woodbury, MN) made 11 saves over the first 26:12, while Michael Cerasuolo (Montreal, QC) turned aside 19 shots over the final 33:48. Matt Leon made 19 saves in 59:07 for Geneseo.
